At a glance. The next UK GDP release is on Thursday 12 November 2026 at 07:00 UK time (02:00 in New York). The latest quarterly figure, for 2026 Q2, is +0.5% on the previous quarter. Every release in your own time zone is in the economic calendar.
What the UK GDP report is
Gross domestic product (GDP) measures the value of what the UK economy produces. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) publishes a monthly estimate, and the release in February, May, August and November also carries the first estimate for the whole quarter. Growth is reported on the previous period: a quarter-on-quarter figure of +0.5% means the economy was half a percent bigger than in the quarter before, after adjusting for prices and the season.
The next releases, from the ONS calendar
| Release day | Weekday | In London | In New York |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 November 2026 | Thursday | 07:00 | 02:00 |
| 11 December 2026 | Friday | 07:00 | 02:00 |
| 15 January 2027 | Friday | 07:00 | 02:00 |
| 12 February 2027 | Friday | 07:00 | 02:00 |
| 11 March 2027 | Thursday | 07:00 | 02:00 |
The dates are the ONS's own, as held in the economic calendar on 2026-11-08. The release is at 07:00 UK time, which is why the New York column shows the early morning. The calendar refreshes daily and a date can move.
The last eight quarters of growth
| Quarter | GDP growth on the previous quarter | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Q2 | +0.5% | grew |
| 2026 Q1 | +0.6% | grew |
| 2025 Q4 | 0.0% | was flat |
| 2025 Q3 | +0.2% | grew |
| 2025 Q2 | 0.0% | was flat |
| 2025 Q1 | +0.6% | grew |
| 2024 Q4 | +0.4% | grew |
| 2024 Q3 | +0.2% | grew |
Over these eight quarters the economy grew in 6 of them, was flat in 2 and fell in 0. A common rule of thumb calls two falling quarters in a row a recession; the last time that happened in the figures held here was 2023 Q3 and 2023 Q4. The figures are the ONS's latest published values, which are revised when new data arrive, so an older quarter can differ from what was first reported.

When the release lands in your time zone
| City | Thu 12 November 2026 | Thu 11 March 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| London | 07:00 | 07:00 |
| Frankfurt | 08:00 | 08:00 |
| New York | 02:00 | 02:00 |
| Dubai | 11:00 | 11:00 |
| Mumbai | 12:30 | 12:30 |
| Singapore | 15:00 | 15:00 |
| Tokyo | 16:00 | 16:00 |
| Sydney | 18:00 | 18:00 |
Both dates are in the same part of the clock-change calendar, so every city shows the same time on both. In Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney the release falls during the working day, in New York before the market opens.
How GDP moves the pound
Growth is read against what economists expected and against what it means for the Bank of England's interest rate decisions: a stronger figure can raise expectations of higher rates, a weaker one the opposite. The pound reacts first, so GBP/USD, EUR/GBP and GBP/JPY are the usual pairs. The release is read with the ECB decision on the euro side and the US CPI report and FOMC decision on the dollar side. The calendar's forecast column covers data releases, and the official block lists only the official dates.
Sizing a trade around the release
The release is a single moment at 07:00 UK time, in the London session. Take GBP/USD with a $10,000 account risking 1% ($100). One pip is worth $10 per standard lot:
| Plan | Stop (pips) | Lots | Loss if stopped at the level | Loss if the stop fills 15 pips beyond |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal day | 25 | 0.40 | $100 (1.0%) | $160 (1.6%) |
| Same lots into the release | 25 | 0.40 | $100 (1.0%) | $160 (1.6%) |
| Wider stop for the release | 60 | 0.16 | $96 (1.0%) | $120 (1.2%) |
| Half the risk, wider stop | 60 | 0.08 | $48 (0.5%) | $60 (0.6%) |
On a normal day a 25-pip stop and 0.40 lots risks $100. Keep the same size through the release and let the stop fill 15 pips beyond its level, and the loss is $160 (1.6% of the account). A 60-pip stop at 1% risk cuts the size to 0.16 lots, and half the risk to 0.08. Decide before the release whether you hold through it or stand aside until the first reaction has passed. The position size calculator, the lot size calculator and the GBP/JPY page do the arithmetic for your own account.
