Pip Value and Position Size Calculator by Instrument

One calculator per instrument, pre-set with its contract, its pip, point or tick, and worked examples. Pick the market you trade.

Quick answer. Value per pip, point or tick is contract size × step size, converted to your account currency. Position size is your risk in dollars divided by stop distance × that value. Contract details here are examples to confirm with your broker.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the value of a pip differ between instruments?

A pip is a price step, and its money value depends on the contract size, the size of the step and the currency the instrument is priced in. For EUR/USD with a USD account it is $10 per standard lot. For USD/JPY it is about $6.67 at a price of 150, and for a gold lot a $1 move is $100.

Are the contract sizes on these pages exact?

No. They are examples. Forex lots are standard, but index CFDs, gold and crypto contracts differ between brokers, and futures are fixed by the exchange but can be revised. Always confirm the contract specification in your own platform.

What account currency do the calculators assume?

US dollars. If your account is in another currency the value of a pip changes, because it has to be converted. Use the pip value calculator for other combinations.

Is this financial advice?

No. The pages show arithmetic: what your inputs imply for size and risk. They cannot predict results, and stops can slip so real losses can exceed the planned amount.
