What to know before sizing EURGBP
EUR/GBP is a cross: neither currency is the dollar. The pip is earned in pounds (100,000 × 0.0001 = £10 per standard lot), and a USD account needs the GBP/USD rate to turn it into dollars: £10 × 1.27 = $12.70. The pip value is therefore tied to a second market, and it is higher than $10 whenever the pound is above a dollar.
The pair has typically moved in a narrower range than EUR/USD or GBP/USD, because both currencies react to overlapping European factors. The main exceptions are Bank of England versus ECB policy gaps and UK-EU political news. A narrower range often means a stop of fewer pips, so the same dollar risk allows a bigger lot, and that makes the spread a larger share of the stop.
Watch for
- Use the GBP/USD price at the time you size. The calculator has a rate field for it, and the pip value moves one for one with that rate.
- A 1 pip spread against a 10 pip stop is 10% of your risk before the trade does anything. Check the spread on this pair at the time you trade.
- Position value is in pounds (lots × 100,000 × 0.8550), converted to dollars by the same rate, which is why leverage looks different from the euro majors.

Worked examples for EURGBP
Every number below is computed with the same formulas as the calculator, at the example prices shown, for a USD account.
Value of one pip at different sizes
At the example price of 0.8550, the money value of one pip on EURGBP for a USD account:
Sizing a trade on EURGBP from your risk
Account $10,000, risk 1% ($100), stop 15 pips. Each pip is worth $12.70 per lot, so the exact size is 100 ÷ (15 × $12.70) = 0.5249 lots. Rounded down to a tradable size that is 0.52, and the real risk is $99.06.
When the GBP/USD moves, the pip value moves
The dollar value of a pip depends on the GBP/USD. At 1.2 one pip on 1 lot is $12.00; at 1.35 it is $13.50. Size a 15 pip stop at 1.2 and you hold 0.55 lots for a $100 risk. If the GBP/USD then moves to 1.35 before you use that size, the same position risks $111.4 instead.
The math behind the numbers
size = (balance × risk %) ÷ (stop in pips × value of 1 pip per lot)
round down to a multiple of 0.01
position value = size × contract × price (converted to USD)Same formulas as the pip value and position size calculators (EURGBP numbers above are examples at the price shown). Rounding down keeps real risk at or below your limit.

EURGBP questions
Why is a EUR/GBP pip worth more than $10 on a USD account?
The pip is earned in pounds: £10 per standard lot. Converted at a GBP/USD rate of 1.27 that is $12.70. If the pound falls to 1.20 against the dollar, the same pip is worth $12.00.
Do I need the GBP/USD price to size EUR/GBP?
Yes, for a USD account. The stop distance is in EUR/GBP pips, but the money value of each pip depends on the pound in dollars, so enter the current GBP/USD rate.
Why is EUR/GBP often quieter than other pairs?
Both currencies are driven by closely linked European economies and policy, so they often move in the same direction against the dollar and cancel out in the cross. It can still jump on Bank of England or ECB surprises.
How much is one pip worth on EURGBP?
For a USD account, one pip on 1 lot is about $12.70 at the example price of 0.8550, and $1.27 on 0.1 lot. Brokers differ, so confirm the contract size before you rely on it.
What size should I trade on EURGBP with $10,000?
It depends on your risk and stop, not on the account alone. With 1% risk and a 15 pip stop the example size is 0.52 lots, which risks $99.06. Change the stop and the size changes with it. This is arithmetic, not advice.
Know what each pip is worth, then place the stop.
Once you know what a pip on EURGBP is worth, the stop distance sets your risk. These indicators help you find where the stop belongs.
